Since we last checked in with The Dandy Warhols so much has changed. They’re no longer bound to Capitol Records and instead have started their own label, Beat the World Records, with a distribution deal through World’s Fair. The Dandys are reportedly holed up in a space called The Odditorium in Portland, which is where they shot this video, playing shows and developing/recording new bands for their label. One thing that remains constant: the peeled banana bass drum art.

All appearances indicate that at some point the Dandys have also cultivated a strong interest in space travel.

All of your guesses were wrong, but we got some really interesting feedback and ideas of new places to go spelunk in MTV’s archives for 120 Minutes performances to try and bring you in the future!

Today we are so pleased to post proto-emo Seattle band Sunny Day Real Estate’s performance of “In Circles”, taped for 120 Minutes in 1994. If you check the SDRE live performance archive on MTV.com you can also watch “Seven” and “Rodeo Jones”. Next week we’re also hoping to bring you a nugget of the interview that took place after this performance in which bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith explain how bizarre and awkward taping live performances, particularly for MTV, can be.

For those of you who might be too young to remember SDRE, check out this MTV News piece “Emo Stars Worship Them, So Should Sunny Day Real Estate Reunite?”. It’ll give you a good run down of bands singer Jeremy Enigk started after SDRE, bands other band members joined and generally what they’ve all been doing with their lives.

This magnificent looking music video comes from Canadian director Alan Poon, on his first music video outing. We are very into the dulcet, sparse songs from Raleigh’s Bowerbirds and this nature-based clip is a lovely match for them.

Poon explains in the video treatment that the images were created by taking individual snapshots of each animal in each position and approximately 5 seconds of animation per day can be made. Interestingly he features three different nature vignettes - a crow (we think), a pair of preying mantises and a crab - and there are three members of Bowerbirds. One to represent each band member, perhaps?

When we wrote our Fleet Foxes blog we had no idea that MTV News’ own John Norris was going to be publishing his interview with the band on the same day. It’s kismet!

So please do enjoy this video piece where Norris asks sincere questions, the band answers trepidaciously, then they warm up and start talking over each other, then they reenact scenes from the last season of Entourage.

You know what we don’t do at the Subterranean blog? News note rundown things that’s really just a list of links. You know what else we don’t do at the Subterranean blog? Restrict ourselves from writing super easy posts.

* Read our “Subterranean’s Choice” video pick post over at the self-titled blog. While you’re there make sure you check out the first issue of their web based magazine. We are huge fans.

* Watch this (disturbing? hilarius? odd?) video of Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox, the Black Lips’ Alexander Cole and King Khan begging to attend the VMAs on MTV’s Newsroom blog (here’s a hint dudes: you probably want to attend the after parties and not the actual VMAs).

* Pfork reports that Weezer have tapped Tokyo Police Club and Angels & Airwaves to open for them. This reminds us we need to email AVA’s manager and heads up him that we heard from a reliable source that TPC secretly love and adore blink-182.

* Here, later today: we’ll premiere the Bowerbirds “In Our Talons” video so pop back to check it out. It’s quite a lovely video.

* We’re listing to The Cure too much already today.
